Starting the Semester

ORGANIZATION!

I used to be so good at this when I was in high school and it has slacked a bit with the chaotic life of college. The one thing I have found to be my saving grace to get me through everything is my agenda. I know, I know... Wo uses those things these days? Well, at least that's what I thought for a while because I kept it in hiding (weird, I know...). But having an agenda combines the best utility of having a calendar and note section. Personally, I had a hard time using a smaller agenda that university would provide. So. I went out and bought myself a nicely made, clean appearance agenda the size of a notebook. Having something that I good money on actually encouraged me to use it more and not let it just be money I threw away. It's what helps me stay on track and not miss a beat when it comes to assignments, meetings or anything else that comes my way!

Here is an example of a less hectic week in my agenda from a couple months ago.

Stay organized my friends! :)

Story: The Phoenix and The Dragon

Phoenix Fier and the dragon
https://www.pinterest.com/empresschang/mythical-creatures/

Here begins the story of the phoenix, Fier.

Now you must know Fier. Fier is a phoenix who flies the skies across the earth in search of dragons. He is a mighty large phoenix with flaming wings that combust with heat upon each flap, claws as sharp of razor blades and a beak so strong it could crush diamonds.

One day, he flew by a lounging dragon who has just finished his meal of 2 sheep.

“Caw! Hello there dragon! What have we here?” said Fier.

The dragon looked up as Fier flapped his combusting wings in circles around him.

“It would be a meal for two, but unfortunately it became a meal for one.”

Fier encroached upon the dragon with a large gust of fiery winds. The dragon didn’t so much as bat and eye.

“Who said that this meal was over?” said Fier with a crooked smile.

     The Dragon looked around.

“What else would you suggest eating here?” said the dragon.

Stumped, Fier raised and expanded his wings into the air releasing a wave of heat.

“Are you not afraid, dragon?” said Fier with a voice of might.

“What is there to be afraid of, phoenix? I have seen a phoenix bigger flying the skies just the day before and I will most likely see one bigger the day after,” said the dragon as he rolled onto his belly.

The phoenix flapped his wings hard and hard until he was 4 times as large as the dragon.

“What about now, dragon? Do you feel the flames of fear inside you roll and grow?” said the dragon with a shortness of breath.

The dragon licked his claws clean from the blood of his sheep to demonstrate the lack of concern of the phoenix. The phoenix raged as fire left his beak. He tucked his wings and head into his belly to meet his feet. Combusting with anger he reached his wings high into the sky. Fire swirling and stretching around as he whipped around his tail. The dragon looked around. The phoenix flapped his mighty wings against the ground with a gust of wind as strong as the Western Winds. The dragon grappled onto the rocks nearby as the phoenix flipped upside down and carried upwards into the sky. The flames wisped into the winds and extinguished themselves. The fires of Fier had been quenched ashes fell like snow onto the earth. Out from underneath the small boulders and dust the dragon crawled. A fiery chuckle left the dragons mouth as he approached this small mound of chirping ash.

A quick blow from the nostrils blew the ashes away from a small phoenix.

With a quick stomp of the dragons foot the phoenix was smothered.

Authors Note:

The story I have shared is original work in itself, but the idea and notation at the end comes from a fable called The Frog and the Ox, which is about a young frog and an old frog. The young frog asks the old frog about this creature he has seen, which is the farmer's white ox. The old frog tells him about it and puffs himself up larger and larger until he thinks he as big as the ox. But the old father frog puffed himself up so big that he bust trying to prove that he could be as big as the ox.

Storybook Favorites

For this class I have 3 favorite stories that I like due to the nature of their storytelling, the content or due to the overall theme.

1.)   The Vampire Lexicon – It is a series of short stories that wrap you up in the middle right from the get-go. It’s a 3-part series that ties together a love-torn vampire, a wolf girl and a stolen girl (indentured servant to the vampires). The author explains that the storyline is similar to the myth "The Vampire and the Soldier", which includes this idea of blood magic. You'll have to read the work to truly get a sense of this trifecta of vampires, werewolves and the stolen.

Here is a link to the website (if you dare, muahahahaha *cough cough*):

2.)   LSD in a Yellow Submarine – you already feel hooked and curious don’t you? It’s okay to lie. This preface to a 2-part story sucks you in with the smooth melody of words that come from the authors fingertips. The tale brings you in on this drug-induced experience experience that revolves around this involvement with the Beatles in England. The story comes from the Persian Tale: A Hemp-Smoker’s Dream. It is worth the read hands and smoker’s pipe down!

A lot of people’s crazy stories nowadays begin with getting drunk, but back in my day, we were imbibing things we couldn’t even spell: LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide, just so we’re clear), psychedelic mushrooms, and MDA (3,4-Methylenedioxyamphetamine, that is), just to name a few.”

3.)   Mermaids Only Dot Com – For anyone who has seen the commercials, this is a spoof of a dating website for farmer’s only. It is an interesting twist of a website that allows you to crack a smile at the small details of the mermaids’ bios. There are 2 mermaids, Serena and Loreli. Each of them come from a mythological tale and story. The background descriptions of the mermaids come from their stories, which enticed me to look more into the actually myths of these creatures.

Introduction: The Present & The Future

Hi!

My name is Austin and I am a senior Public Relations major with a minor in French. The coolest thing about my major is that it is a crossover between marketing, advertisement, business and journalism. Frequently people believe that PR is a part of Price College at OU, but it is actually a part of the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Feel free to learn more about the college by visiting http://www.ou.edu/gaylord.html.

Currently, I am a Social Media & Content Intern for High Five Media Group. I am responsible for managing various social media accounts for certain clients to create rapport and stimulate engagements on their feeds. In this day and age, social media is the way people check reviews, provide feedback and learn more about companies and organizations. I also contribute content to LINKED magazine.

Long term, my goal is to work for a nation-wide corporation and be the head of the PR department. I want to be responsible for executing campaigns for a company that creates a different. I want to sit on a non-profit board that benefits the community that I will reside in. The goal here is to benefit the community and myself.

I recently adopted a Bernese Mountain Dog named Henri. He is 4 months old. Henri enjoys short walk, playing with the neighbor’s cat, Cici and cuddling in the morning. My partner and I rescued Henri through an organization called BARC (Bernese Animal Rescue Coalition). He was being auctioned-off to known puppy mills in Illinois where he would spend the rest of his life breeding and inbreeding. Now, Henri gets to spend his days being a part of our family and keeping all of us entertained.
This is a picture I took with my partner at the St. Louis Arch

There is so much I could share about myself, but really the best way to do so is to connect with me via social media or engage in person-to-person conversations. I hope you enjoyed reading about my current life and future aspirations! Feel free to comment with questions or share some of your future goals. :)

My Favorite Place

My favorite place is Siesta Key, Florida. The Siesta Key is actually just a region in Florida that barely reaches its tips into the city of Sarasota, Florida. This little piece of paradise has a white sand beach, crystal-clear blue and green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. I vacationed here in December a while back and found it to be the epitome of paradise. With a lack of heavy tourism and exceptionally friendly locals, nothing compares to Siesta Key.

If you ever find yourself in this little piece of heaven, I strongly recommend going parasailing. It's totally worth it.

*Warning*
We saw what appeared to be a shark in the crystal blue waters not far off a reef while sailing the skyline. ;)
